Mindful drawing workshop – Mark-making activities for creative flow
Cloud drawing activity
Can drawing be fulfilling without expectations of its outcome?
This workshop is for people who like to, or want to get back to the joy of observational drawing, without the pressure of producing a representational artwork, or having to copy a particular scene or still life arrangement. Facilitated by professional artist Gali Weiss and meditation and mindfulness teacher Tracey Avery, participants will be guided through a range of meditations and mindful activities in drawing and mark-making with the focus of internal and external observation.
Through a variety of guided activities, you will be developing a relationship between the eye and the hand, which in turn will reflect the relationship of your observations and your perceptions through mark making – the marks and gestures of drawing.

Her arts practice has centered on notions of presence and dualities in the form of drawing installations, animation and artists’ books. A major part of her practice since her PhD has been Unfolding Projects, an art-text exchange between women writers in Afghanistan and artists in Australia, revealing understandings of women in Afghanistan and the potency of direct marks of exchange.
Tracey Avery is a curator and consultant with a PhD in design history, and a certified meditation and mindfulness teacher and guide. She is also an artist member of Unfolding Projects, a series of art-exchange projects with Afghan women, established by Gali Weiss in 2009.
